MarGen is a UK LLMO agency. We do large language model optimisation: the work that gets your business named inside the answers ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity and Gemini give your buyers.
If you are comparing terms rather than suppliers, start with what LLMO means and how it relates to GEO and AEO. This page is about the engagement.
LLMO, GEO, AEO: you are not choosing between them
The honest answer to “which one do I need” is that the distinction matters far less than the vocabulary suggests.
| Term | What it names |
|---|---|
| LLMO | The thing being optimised for: the language model |
| GEO | The surface: the generative engine giving the answer |
| AEO | The slot: the direct answer, AI Overviews, what an assistant reads aloud |
| AI SEO | The umbrella term most buyers actually search for |
The underlying work overlaps almost entirely. We deliver it as one engagement, because an agency selling LLMO, GEO and AEO as three retainers is describing its invoicing rather than its method.
What the work actually is
Four jobs. The order matters, because each one gates the next.
1. Make your entity unambiguous
A model needs to know who you are before it can decide whether to trust you. That means Organisation schema, consistent naming and facts everywhere you appear, knowledge graph presence, and resolving any confusion between you and a similarly named business.
Entity presence across four or more third-party platforms is associated with a 2.8x citation lift (Digital Bloom AI Visibility Report). It is the cheapest work with the largest multiplier, and it is almost always where we start.
2. Make your expertise extractable
Most content is written for a human reader or a search crawler. Neither produces a clean, quotable, attributable answer.
Extractable content answers first and evidences second, uses tables where the data is structured, and carries the markup a machine needs to parse it. The test we apply: can a model lift a correct, self-contained answer out of this page without rewriting it?
3. Earn the corroboration
This is the half most agencies underweight, because it is the hardest to sell as a deliverable.
Models cross-reference before they recommend. Around 85% of brand mentions in AI outputs come from third-party sources rather than the brand’s own site (AirOps, 2025), and branded web mentions correlate with AI visibility at 0.664 against 0.218 for backlinks (Ahrefs, December 2025).
So the off-site work is most of the outcome, not a bolt-on to the content budget.
4. Measure citation, not rankings
If the reporting still leads with positions and sessions, you’re buying an SEO retainer with new labels. The unit is citation share across named platforms, measured per platform, because visibility diverges between them.
Why your current SEO agency probably cannot do this
Not a criticism of their SEO. The signals genuinely differ.
Domain Authority correlates negatively with AI visibility, between -0.08 and -0.21 across the studies we reviewed. A decade of link building produces a strong domain and does not transfer. We regularly audit brands that rank top three for their commercial terms and are named in none of the AI answers for the same questions.
That gap is the whole opportunity, and it closes as more brands notice.
The method is published
Our framework is the Synaptic Authority Engine: 13 pillars across four authority domains, scored 1 to 5, producing a GEO Maturity Score and a radar chart that shows which gap is costing you most. It is published in full rather than held back, because you should be able to explain to your board what you are buying.
If you want the wider survey first, including the frameworks our competitors publish and what the peer-reviewed research actually proves, that is on AI SEO framework.
What it costs
Published, because an agency that hides its pricing is telling you something.

What we will not promise
No agency controls what a model says. Citation depends on third-party corroboration accumulating on sources the model already trusts, and that is outside anyone’s direct control.
What a programme can do is make you eligible and shorten the timeline. Anyone guaranteeing AI citations inside 30 days is describing something they cannot deliver.
We also will not pretend the timeline is faster than it is. Structural wins land in weeks. Citation authority takes three to six months. Our published case studies run from zero to 31% citation share in 90 days through to 4% to 41% over 12 months.
Regulated sectors
Most of our work is in financial services, legal and healthcare, where the claims have to survive compliance review.
That tends to suit LLMO rather than hinder it, because regulated sectors already produce what models reward: precise claims, named and credentialed authors, traceable sources. The constraint is approval, so the process is built around sign-off rather than fighting it.
Start with the free audit
The free AI Visibility Audit gives you your position across ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Gemini and Google AI Overviews for five commercial queries, your citation share against up to three named competitors, and the single biggest reason you are currently invisible.
No commitment. If the answer is that you don’t need us yet, we’ll say so.

Common questions about LLMO agencies
What is an LLMO agency?
An LLMO agency does large language model optimisation: it makes your expertise findable, trustworthy and extractable enough that a language model names your business when someone asks it a question in your category.
In practice that means building a machine-readable entity, structuring content so a clean answer can be lifted from it, and earning the third-party corroboration a model needs before it will quote you.
Is LLMO the same as GEO?
Effectively yes. LLMO, GEO, AEO and AI SEO all describe getting cited by AI systems rather than ranked in a list of links, and the underlying work overlaps almost entirely.
LLMO names the thing being optimised for, the language model. GEO names the surface, the generative engine. Splitting them into separate retainers is a pricing decision rather than a delivery one.
How much does LLMO cost in the UK?
MarGen publishes its pricing. Engagements start with a free AI Visibility Audit, then an optional one-off Synaptic Audit at £2,950 which is credited in full against your first month if you continue within 30 days.
Retainers run from £2,950 a month for Foundation on a three-month minimum, £5,950 for Authority or £6,500 in regulated sectors, and from £12,950 for Dominance.
Does domain authority help with LLMO?
No, and this is the most expensive assumption we see. Across the studies we reviewed, Domain Authority correlates negatively with AI visibility, between -0.08 and -0.21.
Branded web mentions correlate at 0.664 against 0.218 for backlinks (Ahrefs, December 2025). A strong traditional SEO profile does not transfer.
Can I do LLMO in-house instead of hiring an agency?
The technical layer, yes. Schema markup, entity consistency and answer-first formatting are all learnable, and we publish the method rather than holding it back.
What is harder alone is the third-party citation building and the cross-platform measurement, because both need tooling and sustained effort. Around 85% of brand mentions in AI outputs come from third-party sources (AirOps, 2025), so that off-site half is most of the work.
Which AI platforms does LLMO cover?
ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, Google Gemini and Google AI Overviews as standard, plus Microsoft Copilot where it matters to the buyer.
Visibility diverges between them, so we measure each separately rather than reporting one blended figure. A brand can be well cited on Perplexity and absent from ChatGPT, and those are different problems with different fixes.
